Zuma or Malema, who is the real threat to SA’s future?

th

The political landscape of South Africa changed a lot ever since Julius Malema decided to no longer be a puppet to the ANC ,and to rather take charge and paint SA red with his own party (Economic Freedom Fighters). Before the 2014 Elections, the ANC (African National Congress) didn’t have a worthy opposition, especially one that’s also taking advantage of the poor to advance the interests of its members (the elite allies). I was shocked to see some of the people who didn’t like Juju during his ANC Youth League days, not only becoming EFF members but also becoming EFF MPs, I guess it is true that the enemy of my enemy is my friend; after all they share the same dislike for the ANC.

This made Parliament get a lot more interesting this year and for the first time I found myself being glued to the TV screen, the same way Generations fans did before Mfundi was f#$ked by his former cast. It was a great comic experience, something that could make it to Comedy Central; but people are still suffering, people who voted because there were promises being made; promises which our politicians usually never keep after they get their valuable votes. Everyday we hear people complaining about the state of governance in this country, it is very rare to find someone who has positive things to say, people are losing faith and don’t know where to look for deliverance any more. People voted for the EFF with the hope that it will rectify the mistakes ANC has made in the past 20 years, inequality being the main issue.

And yes, EFF is attempting to deliver on its promises, starting with the taking back of the land, land which was “stolen”from our forefathers, they have also tried very hard to make sure that the President pays back the money that was used to build his palace at Nkandla; money which the president despite the public protector’s directives to at least pay back a certain amount, hasn’t payed  back a cent or said if or when he will do so. One thing I did realise though is that the president is not willing to answer any question or to even take any responsibility when he is supposed to, and that there is always this army of loyalists ready to protect him, there are many people in the ruling party that I respected during the Mandela/Mbeki era who I am ashamed of today, same way there are EFF MPs who I have lost respect for because they let go of their integrity in their attempt to advance their political careers.

I believe in our country’s ability to rid itself of all the bad things that are happening now, and I am sure that the time will come when inequality will be an all-time low but we don’t have to mess up the country in the process. Erecting shacks wherever you see unoccupied land may lead to a mess, invading the legislature house is wrong, letting a palace be built and claiming to not have known is not good leadership, being loyal to a party because of its past success is a bad idea; all this is bad for our country’s future.

Let’s protect our country and continue to grow it, and make it better.
